When we were in the NICU, we received a little paper baby book from the March of Dimes and I just thought it was so sweet. The hospital also had art therapy for patients and their project for NICU parents was scrapbooks. It was healing to have these outlets.
The Baby Book we received from March of Dimes
I’ve created this baby book with the hopes that it will make it to those parents with precious little ones in the NICUs and PICUs of the world. It’s my hope that parents, friends, family members, or even NICU/PICU staff might print off copies to give to them.
If you’re a local church, this might also be a great ministry for you to make and distribute something thoughtful and useful to families in need of love and prayer.
I’m hoping to make other “themes” of the book available as I get the chance.
The other is designed to be printed and bound, which is really the better option. The best ways of binding are either to use a comb binder like this:
A narrow ring binder, like this:
Or loose rings like this:
You can also staple the books in a pinch, though they don’t turn out quite as nice and don’t wear very well. Thermal binding is also a mediocre solution since the books are designed to be opened, written in, and closed many times.
My personal preference is the narrow ring binders, which sell for about 50 cents to $1 each at Walmart (pro tip: these are cheapest around Back to School time). What makes these the best solution is that you can add pocket pages, which means the parents can tuck in mementos like crib cards, blood pressure cuffs, little hats, badges, and stuff like that which they want to keep. I prefer the hardcover over the soft one for the sake of the pockets, but the soft ones are ok too.
I’ll put up examples of completed books as soon as I can get some made and photographed.

You may add the message “Printed as a gift to you from _______________” or something similar.
(example: “Printed as a gift to you from First Nazarene Church” or “Printed as a gift to you from University Hospital Rainbow Babies”) This works well as it’s own page or as a sticker on the back of the book.
