If you have visited many blogs, you’ve probably seen the many posts about Disney Pressed Pennies as one of the best valued souveniers.
Most recommend using the M&Ms mini containers as holders for the pennies, This is pre-pressing, though a few will fit inside afterward, they certainly won’t fit as many as they do “un-pressed”.
If you live in a country where you don’t have M&M minis, you might be able to order some from Amazon. I’ll include a link below. You also can buy “bead tubes” at most craft stores. We used stickers and embelishments from the scrapbooking department.
Tips:
- I highly recommend printing off the “pocket penny maps” from Mouse for Less.
- Washed pennies are better, there is a recipe below.
- There are penny portfolios for your collection that you can find at several stores throughout Disney.
- Disney recently announced Star Wars pennies at some locations.
- There are over 500 penny machines.
- There are also pressed quarter and dime machines.
- Each penny machine costs 50 cents to press the penny.
Penny Cleaning:
- Vinegar (or lemon juice) and salt in a glass or plastic bowl – put in about 5 pennies at a time and stir for about 10 seconds. Remove and rinse immediately or it will begin to turn green.
- Cola sitting for about 4 – 5 hours
- Ketchup and a toothbrush – scrub, scrub!
How does coin pressing work?
Per pressedcoins.com: A pressed coin is created when a coin is squeezed between two rollers, one of which has an engraving on it’s surface. Approximately, 2500 pounds of pressure is put on the coin as it is flattened.
