Crockpot Bacon Cheeseburger Sloppy Joes

Most of these recipes are my own archive of things I liked so I can remember how I did them. There are a lot of great recipes from Crockpot Cheeseburger Sloppy Joes around the internet. This is how I like to do ours:

Crockpot will be cooked on high for 3 hours or low for 4-5 hours. I find this makes about 5 or 6 sandwiches.

You will need:

1 lb of hamburger (we use the 97% lean from Trader Joe’s)

1/4 cup water (in addition to the other 1/4 cup listed below)

1/2 cup ketchup

3 Tablespoons yellow mustard

1/4 cup water (or beef broth)

1 Tablespoon Worcestershire

1/2 teaspoon brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

3 teaspoons dried onion flakes

Salt and pepper

1 lb bacon

Buns

2 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar + 1 cup Velveeta)

Possible Add Ins:

1 Tablespoon Tabasco and/or 1 Tablespoon A1

1/4 cup barbecue sauce

Instructions:

Place burger in frying pan with 1/4 water, salt and pepper, garlic powder, and onion flakes and cook until browned, being careful not to burn the fragile little onions.

If you didn’t use lean burger, then drain off the fat well.

Add to crockpot

In a separate bowl, blend the 1/4 water or broth, ketchup, mustard, worcerstershire, and brown sugar. If you’re an A1 fan, you can also add a little of that as well (about 1 Tablespoon) for an added kick or if you like spicy, throw in about 1 Tablespoon of tabasco sauce. Or, you can add the BBQ sauce. Pour this mixture over the meat and stir well. Start your crockpot and cook as suggested above(high 3 hours or low 4-5 hours). If you are going with the high setting, check about half way through to possibly add a little more water.

Stir in cheddar cheese. This usually takes about 1/2 hour in my pot, but it’s ready when it’s melted.

Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 400 degrees and line a cookie sheet with tin foil. Place bacon on a single layer and bake for 15-20 minutes, draining in between as necessary or desired. Remove from sheet onto paper towels when finished.

Then, assemble sandwich and enjoy!
